It was reported early on New Year’s Eve that TNT analyst and NBA legend Charles Barkley was pulled over in Scottsdale and arrested on suspicion of DUI. This is hardly Barkley’s first encounter w/ controversy and/or getting in the news for doing something dumb, but a DUI is no laughing matter and definitely more serious than gambling away millions of dollars.
Barkley apparently failed a field sobriety test and declined the breathalyzer before submitting to the alcohol/substance blood test, the results of which, could take several weeks to be confirmed.

Manu Ginobili made his season debut yesterday, chipping in 12 points off the bench to help the San Antonio Spurs defeat the Memphis Grizzlies 94-81. This will be a huge boost to the Spurs who have been without point guard Tony Parker since the first week of the month after an ankle sprain.
“It’s a tremendous boost,” said Spurs center Tim Duncan. “He played well. I think psychologically more than anything, having him on the floor and seeing him move around is going to be great for …

This year’s Los Angeles Lakers team is on a mission to get back to the NBA Finals, after they were beaten handily by the Boston Celtics last June. With a strong attitude towards winning and getting back to the Finals, the Lakers have reeled off 7 straight wins, including a tough match-up against the Western Conference’s other (potential) powerhouse, the New Orleans Hornets.
Kobe Bryant is again the star for the Lakers, but he’s got a lot of help this year. Even after cementing his legacy with his 1st MVP trophy …

The Portland Trail Blazers were high on most basketball analysts lists this year as a team on the rise, but the only thing we know after one game, is that their most heralded player is already on the bench for 2-4 weeks.
2nd year rookie Greg Oden injured his ankle in the first game of the NBA season against the Los Angeles Lakers. This, after a full 2007-2008 season in which Oden didn’t play a single game for Portland. Fans have to be on edge, as this former #1 …

The 2008-2009 NBA season is just around the corner, so Jock Jerseys is going to start featuring an analysis of what we feel are the Top 10-15 players at each position.
Today, we’re going to get started with the Top 10 fantasy Point Guards in the NBA. This offseason included a number of big name players moving to new teams, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll be in a better position fantasy-wise.
Before getting into our point guard rankings, lets go over how Yahoo Fantasy Sports is rating them this year:
Chris Paul

The NBA‘s newest (relocated) franchise, the Oklahoma City Thunder, are getting ready to open the 2008-2009 season in style w/ the release of their new home & away basketball jerseys. The jerseys appear to be a mix between the Hawks & the Grizzlies, but still have a flavor all their own as you can see from the media photo of Joe Smith above.
This season, the Thunder should feature an improved squad featuring Kevin Durant, Jeff Green, newcomers Joe Smith, Desmond Mason …

Facing a decisive opponent early Thursday morning (U.S. time), the United States men’s basketball threw down the hammer on Greece in a 92-69 victory. Fresh in the minds of several Team USA players, including Lebron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Paul, was a defeat at the hands of the Greeks in the 2006 World Championships – an embarrassing loss for the United States.
Thursday’s game against the Greek team presented the first true challenge so far for the Americans, who are now 3-0 in the 2008 Olympic Games, heading for …

The US Mens basketball team is set to face Russia in the USA Basketball International Challenge, a precursor to the Olympic games which start on August 10th against the hosting Chinese basketball team. To date, the US team hasn’t really been challenged, nor do I think that Russia will challenge them either. The best player for the Russian team is Utah Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko, but who knows which one (of him) will show up – the malcontent or the great all-around player that he shows in flashes.

Ongoing coverage of the 2008 NBA Finals, Game 5:
Final result: Lakers force Game 6 after a tough showing on their homecourt. After nearly blowing a huge lead again, they held on in the end and delivered in a must-win game.
1st half…
Lakers take huge lead again, reminiscent of Game 4. As in that game, LA has already given up most of the lead and were fightining for their life late in the 2nd quarter. The entered the half w/ the lead, but just barely.
Kobe Bryant was on fire in the 1st …

The Boston Celtics served notice on Thursday that they intend to defend their regular season record and compete for another NBA Championship.
Facing the L.A. Lakers in an epic Game 1, things looked bad for the Celtics in the 3rd quarter when Paul Pierce had to be helped off the court by teammates. As the Lakers took the lead and appeared to be taking advantage of Pierce’s absence, the G/F re-emerged from the locker room to a standing ovation and helped lead his team back into the lead late in the …

The NBA will complete the 2008 draft lottery this evening at the their “Entertainment” headquarters in NJ. Tonight’s event will not tell us who is going where, but rather which team will be picking first, second and third (etc.).
In what has almost become a laughable event, where the NBA’s worst teams are rewarded (for tanking! – oops ) and the teams that continue fighting throughout the season are not; tonight’s event is only moderately interesting because there is a debate about who will be picked with the #1 draft …

Love him or hate him, Kobe Bryant has dominated the NBA scene the past few years as an L.A. Laker. If you don’t live in Los Angeles or if you’re a huge Shaq fan, chances are you hate him – those of you in Denver also. But the people in L.A…. you can bet they love him.
At this point, I think Kobe is cool w/ all the hate too…. Why? Because the league’s voters just showed their love by voting Kobe Bryant the league’s MVP for the 2007-2008 NBA season.
Bryant …
