Federal judge says her ‘preliminary thoughts’ are to exclude evidence that slugger tested positive for steroids three times in 2000 and 2001, as well as BALCO ledgers and calendars.

While Barry Bonds may escape the punishment that a perjury conviction might bring as a result of the tests’ omission, he’s already guilty in the court of public opinion.  The fact that he failed the steroid tests and has gone and admitted to using “the cream” and “the clear”, already puts his credibility and reputation into question forever.

To be honest, I think Bonds could care less about any criminal charges… he wants in the Baseball Hall of Fame and is going to do anything/everything to ensure he gets there.  He wants to be remembered as the greatest baseball player that ever lived and a guilty verdict in any court is going to ruin any remaining hope he has.  Granted, many would never rate him as the best player ever, but if you look at the stats and domination, it is hard not to.
