Saints’ Marques Colston Out 4-6 Weeks w/ Thumb Injury
Football News from NFL.com
Marques Colston, the New Orleans Saints‘ top receiver during the past two seasons, had surgery on his left thumb and will miss four to six weeks.
This is an injury that could hurt the New Orleans Saints’ playoff chances, simply because it takes away a weapon for QB Drew Brees. Without Marques Colston as a deep threat, other defenses will be able to key in on the other offensive players including Jeremy Shockey, Reggie Bush and Brees as well. It will be interesting to see how these players perform during Colston’s absence. If they lose 1/2 of the games while he’s out, they might risk missing the playoffs.
Fantasy football wise… Colston’s injury presents a lot of problems for owners who picked him up in an early round; hopefully you have a decent WR backup on your bench. Aside from the loss of points for Colston, Drew Brees owners (including myself) may face some reduced points, since he won’t be throwing to such a dependable receiver anymore – his TD’s may also come down a notch as well. Owners of Shockey and Bush should see an improvement, since Drew will have to make up for Colston’s catches by passing the ball to other players.
