One of the NFL’s real “good guys” is apparently hanging up his cleats (again) in New York, as quarterback Brett Favre announced his retirement from football on Wednesday.

Considering his past history of waffling and backing out of retirement once already before, I’m not going to buy into this until the first official game of the 2009-10 season starts and Favre is not on an NFL roster.  There are many opportunities for him to play, so if the right one opened up, I can’t see him at least not considering it.

Last time Brett retired, he sobbed, he whined and he looking back I think it is apparent that he was (attempting) to leave for all the wrong reasons.  This time around, the excuse is that his body is wearing down and perhaps he doesn’t have the urge to go through another full season.  This one is easier to buy from Favre, but I still insist that we should wait until the NFL season starts before calling his career over.
