The Baltimore Ravens have already been spending quite freely this offseason, w/ many new contracts including a new one for linebacker Ray Lewis, a mainstay of the Ravens defense since the late 90’s. The move to dump Samari Rolle comes shortly after the player requested to be released by the team – surprising, considering the Ravens could compete for the AFC Championship next year w/ an improved offense and steady defense.
Still, times are tough big name players are being dropped from their respective teams left & right – see Jason Taylor, Marvin Harrison, Derrick Brooks, Brian Dawkins and Torry Holt. Others are renegotiating their deals in an effort not to get released – see LaDainian Tomlinson in San Diego.
I would love for my home team, the Arizona Cardinals, to pick-up Rolle to bolster their defense further. That his highly unlikely, however, considering they can’t even sign wide receiver Anquan Boldin to an extension.
