Terrell Owens Released by Cowboys -What’s Next?
Despite putting up decent numbers for the Dallas Cowboys over the past 3 seasons, troubled wide receiver Terrell Owens was releases yesterday. The move comes weeks after team owner Jerry Jones insisted that America’s Team was not looking to get rid of Owens.
Terrell has a history of blowing up on his teammates and coaches, but he is one of the hardest working & talented receivers in the NFL. His stats are already good enough for Hall of Fame consideration, but his attitude may prevent him from being a 1st ballot HOF’er.
The interest level for an grumpy, older wide receiver is not that good these days. With the release of Marvin Harrison recently and possibly Torry Holt, the late 90’s, early 2000’s stud WR’s are nearly out of the game. Sure, each would likely find a home for a few extra years like Jerry Rice did w/ the Raiders, but their teams sent them a message – you can’t perform at the same level you have in the past and we can’t afford that.
Teams that might have interest in TO include:
- Kansas City Chiefs – New coach, new quarterback… possible bad combination, however, to bring Owens in, as he could wreck the whole thing.
- Oakland Raiders – Never a team to shy away from spending money of troublesome players.
- St. Louis Rams – They suck, so why not?
