Getting ready for a golf tournament, or want to be in tournament ready condition? We’ve put together 7 tips to help you prepare and train for success.

Develop a routine

If you always know what needs to be done, attended to, remembered, and paid special attention to before a golf tournament, then nothing will ever be overlooked. One of the best ways to achieve this is to establish a well-worn routine that is repeated every time no matter when or where your next golf tournament is. Anyone with a good golf education will attest that this is a great strategy to have, and those with a professional golf career probably do this without fail – whether they realize it or not. Even if you are just a casual golfer, you can use this tip to help you improve your game: consistency breeds success.

Practice at a driving range

Perfect your drive on an easy, controlled pitch. Practice makes perfect, or at least way better than you would be without it! Golf is no exception. Whether you have a professional golf career or are just starting out in the world of golf, you have got to practice. So get yourself out to your local driving range and go drive some balls out into the far reaches of the green!

Practice on a putting green

Similarly, your putting skills are important to hone and develop. And of course, to practice, practice, practice! Work on a consistent temp when putting, and accelerate into the ball.

Practice with targets

Don’t think that when you are putting, that is the only time you need to be aiming at a target. You will be well off to incorporate “target shooting” with your longer drives as well. Make a fun game of it for yourself. Remember the game HORSE or Around the World that you used to play in basketball? You can do games like that to help strengthen your game too. Just because its practice doesn’t mean it can’t be fun. You just have to get creative.

Remember to stretch

If you don’t warm those muscles up, you’re going to tear them up. And torn muscles are not going to do you a whole lot of good on competition day. Get in the habit now of always, always stretching out those muscles. Remember the big ones: arms, legs, torso, and do not forget the smaller ones either: neck, wrists, and ankles. Your body will thank you, and so will your game.

Prepare yourself with mental fortitude

One of the biggest challenges to amateur golfers especially in a tournament situation actually has little to do with the golf itself. Amateur golfers can psych themselves out and get overly nervous or excited and perform poorly. Keep your cool, and you’ll do great.

Get there early

A rushed competitor is a flushed competitor, and that will show in your game. If you want to have your best game face on, draw back on your golf school days and remember that having structure in your game from practice to performance is important. You can’t do that if you don’t have the time to do it.

So remember, no matter whether you are a seasoned recreational player, a dedicated amateur player going for a shot at a professional golf career, or a casual golfer, you can prepare yourself to succeed at amateur golf tournaments or improve your game. And never forget to have fun!
