The NFL left us this week w/ no shortage of interesting stories and bylines from what was really a great weekend for football fans.  Ranging from record setting outings, quarterbacks feuding w/ their coaches or a head coach pulling one of the most boneheaded plays in recent history, the NFL is definitely the hottest discussion in sports this week – Tiger Woods’ indiscretions seem like a thing of the past already.

The BCS Standings are official and the 2009-2010 bowl schedule has been finalized.  Fans of each team should be satisfied with where they ended up, although many teams still do have an argument that a playoff system is needed.

Allen Iverson‘s return to Philly has been ended due to personal family matters & an ongoing feeling that Iverson isn’t going to suit up again for the 76ers.  Iverson apparently has a 4-yr child suffering from health issues so it’s no surprise to see him siding w/ the family on this one.

The last unsigned 1st round pick of the 2009 NFL Draft, wide receiver Michael Crabtree, has officially signed w/ the San Francisco 49ers.  Off to a 3-1 start and leading the NFC West, the 49ers were actually in a good position to negotiate w/ the wideout from Texas Tech – they really showed they didn’t need him (vs. the other way around).

Major League Baseball‘s October classic kicks off today in fine fashion, matching up the league’s best for a memorable playoff season.
Yesterday’s 1-game playoff between the Minnesota Twins and Detroit Tigers was an instant (ESPN) Classic.  12-innings, something like 24 hits and 20 stranded base runners in total.  Both teams were hungry, but the Twins executed in the clutch and pulled out the win to advance to meet the Yankees – baseball’s best (regular season) team.
